Back Care Basics: Movement & Breathwork for a Healthy Back

Do you have backaches and pains that limit you or deter you from certain activities? Do you often feel tightness and constriction in your back, neck and shoulders? Are you looking for some simple ways to incorporate movement into your daily life to help relieve and prevent back pain so that you can step into your original vitality? Then this is the class for you!
In this 5-week course, Anne McGinley distills her 30 years of experience in the yogic and martial arts traditions to bring you a class designed to revitalize your spine. Anne has taught this course at rehabilitation facilities, to occupational and physical therapists, and within the corporate setting and is highly experienced in working with all body types.
Your spine is designed to move in 4 directions (forward flexion, backward extension, lateral side bending left and right, and twisting) in order to maintain strength and mobility. However, given the prevalence of the modern-day sedentary lifestyle where the majority of time is spent sitting at a desk or hunched over a tech device, we rarely move through all planes of motion. In each class you will be taken through a series of simple movement and breathwork techniques that will help you develop strength and flexibility, improve posture, and increase energy. Movement is medicine!
We’ll keep our approach structured and clear so you’re able to practice these techniques on your own and embrace a new way of being at ease in your body. Whether you are recovering from an injury or looking to implement a preventative maintenance back care routine, this specialized class for backs is for you! All levels welcome.
Included in the series is a one-on-one meetup with your Instructor (to be completed during the 5 week session) to help you in developing a back care program just for you. Available times and sign up for your one-on-one will be offered at your first class meeting.
